On May 20, 2024, Emergency General Hospital (National Emergency Medical Research Center) and Career Development Center of the Red Cross Society of China co-sponsored the "Emergency Red Rose" life education activity in Beijing.  

The event was held to care for women and health and spread culture of traditional Chinese medicine, targeting at building a platform for exchanges between wives of diplomatic envoys among embassies in China of countries of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) and female workers. The activity would be expecting not only to promote prevention and control of natural disasters from the lady’s perspective, but also help construct the international cooperation mechanism for emergency management and empower the Red Cross Society of China with more humanitarian force.  

The opening ceremony was held in the East Branch of Emergency General Hospital (EGH). Zhang Yunhong, Deputy Director of the East Asia Regional Delegation of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), and Ge Ci, Director of the Division of Humanitarian Affairs and Policy of the East Asia Regional Delegation of the International Committee of the Red Cross, together with more than 30 lady representatives from embassies of Mongolia, Cuba, France and Uzbekistan in China were present.  

Heads of Department of International Cooperation and Rescue of China’s Ministry of Emergency Management, EGH, and the Career Development Center of the Red Cross Society of China were also witnessed the ceremony. Language support were offered by the Youth League of Beijing Foreign Studies University. 

The Mongolian ambassadress was put on a red rose bracelet by volunteers at the sign-in desk. 

The ceremony was presided over by Sun Jinwen, Vice president of EGH. Jin Hongtu, Director of Career Development Center of the Red Cross Society of China, Zhang Yunhong, Deputy Director of the East Asia Regional Delegation of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, and Wu Di, President of EGH, delivered speeches at the launching ceremony. 

Jin Hongtu said that the BRI China proposed was to work with various countries to achieve economic development and mutual benefit, improve people's livelihood, and help strengthen global governance and settlement of humanitarian issues. 

The event has set up an good example that EGH (National Emergency Medical Research Center) in cooperation with IFRC to participate in the construction of BRI emergency management mechanism and play the due role of humanitarian assistance. Zhang Yunhong said that IFRC has maintained close cooperation with the Ministry of Emergency Management of China and the Red Cross Society of China, actively participated in and supported the BRI international cooperation mechanism for natural disaster reduction and emergency management. Becoming a coordinating member unit of the mechanism last year, IFRC has been highly appreciated the positive role EGH played in world medical humanitarian assistance and would look forward to more in-depth exchanges and cooperation with EGH. 

Wu Di stressed that women play important roles in society, their health and happiness are related to family harmony and social stability, and women's wisdom and strength are essential for international cooperation and natural disaster response. We hope the "Emergency Red Rose" activity will further promote caring for women's health and safety, build an exchange platform for  embassy female staff and female family members of BRI countries, promote the exchange of wisdom, share experience and enhance friendship, and promote the construction of BRI international cooperation mechanism for natural disaster prevention and emergency management from the lady’s perspective.

After the ceremony, guests were invited to taste the traditional Chinese health tea, share life rescue skills, and exercise first aid hand dressing after training. Additionally, guests were divided into groups to experience more such as Chinese medicine, acupuncture, moxibustion, beauty and health maintenance.  

At the end of the event, guests exclaimed the event "fantastic" and "amazing", and expressed appreciation to the sponsor for the carefully-organized event.
